So, I was having a conversation with someone this evening about what else…making money and the internet. An example came up of some guy that makes a load of money on a gaming site and the statement was made “that lucky nerdy bastard!” While I can understand the sentiment, the first thing that came to mind, and fell out of my mouth, was something along the lines of ‘the main difference between him and others is sheer focus’.
While there may be a lot of very skilled and talented people in the world, not all of them find a way to materialize this into financial success. I’ve known several very wealthy people that don’t hold degrees or any highly technical knowledge but have amazing powers of focus and follow-through on projects and goals.
Of course this led to a discussion of how you need to ‘plan your work and work your plan’ and all that other fun cliche’ yack. Also it reminded me of this excerpt from the classic book “Think and Grow Rich” that I thought to be a pretty good guide or outline on how to keep and maintain focus on getting your goals materialized.
“Six Ways to Turn Desires into Gold.
The method by which desire for riches can be transmuted into it’s financial equivalent, consists of six definite, practical steps, viz:
First: fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definiteness which will be described in a subsequent chapter.)
Second: determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as “something for nothing.”)
Third: establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
Fourth: create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
Fifth: write out in a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
Sixth: read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. As you read–see and feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money.
It is important that you follow the instructions described in these six steps. It is especially important that you observe, and follow the instructions in the sixth paragraph.”
I hope someone else finds this useful as a first exposure or a fiftieth to this timeless classic. If you have any other related topics feel free to drop me a line or a comment here.
ciao for now - Sean
